What to look out for on the Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee has been a very successful vehicle for on-road use, if not so much off-road (although it drives well off-road). It weighs in at some 2.2 tons, and therefore, if driven hard or used for towing in particular, it is important to take care to ensure the front brake discs and pads are in good condition.

In our experience, the early models had a tendency for premature differential bearing wear. This is evidenced by a whining sound which can be clearly heard. If you find this problem, it needs to be fixed quickly in case of collateral damage if the bearing disintegrates.
