80 Series Landcruiser

The 80 series Landcruiser is one of the World's ultimate 4x4 vehicles. Reliable, strong, refined and exceptionally good on and off road. Featuring long travel coil sprung suspension, permanent 4 wheel drive, axle diff locks and a fantastic 6 cylinder 4.2 turbo diesel engine. Other models include a 4.5 litre 6 cylinder petrol engine and a choice of manual and automatic gearbox, there are too many model variations produced between 1990 and 1998 to list here but the common ones are as follows.

1990-1995 4.2 turbo diesel manual and automatic gearboxes.

1992- ABS brakes and electronically controlled automatic gearbox.

1995- 4.5 petrol engine and 24 valve 4.2 turbo diesel engines, UK diesel vehicles were only available with manual gearboxes.

1997- 80 series were badged as Amazon to distinguish from the new Landcruiser Colorado.

Japanese imports are almost all automatics, giving us the opportunity to buy an imported later auto model. Most UK 80s have front and rear axle diff locks, around 40% of Japanese imports do. Do not be affraid to buy an import as they are no problem in the UK and dealers recognise them.

The 80 series is one of the most popular vehicles for overland travel, simple engine managment, uncomplicated vehicle electrics, awsome load carrying, extensive equipment lists, very reliable and cars with 100,000 miles or less are still in good condition and represent good value for money.

At Frogs Island 4x4 we are preparing 80 series all the time for recreational off road and long distance travel, the list of equipment available is probably only topped by the Land Rover Defender providing owners with the opportunity to equip their 80 exactly how they want. The quality, function and style of the equipment we sell for the 80 series is unrivalled.

Take a look at the gallery pics to see what is possible.
