60 Series Landcruiser
The Landcruiser 60 series was a huge step up in style... and size! from the 40 series. The 60 is only available in a LWB version and found favour in Australia and Africa. The 60 series was very strong and comfortable even on feaf springs. Reliability was it's strength putting Toyota well and truly on the map as far as long distance remote travel was concerned.
Built between 1980 and 1990, 6 cylinder 4.2 petrol 2F and 6 cylinder 4.0 diesel 2H engines were fitted with manual or automatic transmissions. Later on a 61 series was introduced with a 4.0 turbo diesel though I don't think any were sold in the UK.
At Frogs Island 4x4 we have worked on several 60 series, for people looking for a simple, strong, large and comfortable 4x4 for overland travel, a rust free example would be hard to beat. There is a lot of equipment available for the 60 series and the vehicle is simple to work on with lots of space for equipment, a little old perhaps but if you can find a good one it will go on for years. In countries with fairer climates than ours the 60 series is well respected and has retained it's value.
